OK email marketers who wear an analytics hat. I work in paid search and work closely w my colleague who runs email.
While there are always some differences in Google Analytics between users and sessions because 1 user can generate more than 1 session - our email channel tends to generate 4 sessions + from each user.
In other channels a bump in users has a similar increase in sessions.
In email we are getting more users to the site but sessions is dropping off.
My hypothesis is that 1 user if interested in the email offer may look repeatedly say in multiple browers or browser tabs or will be doing some on site shopping around - causing lots of sessions.
Viewing sessions in isolation one would think we have a traffic problem but we are sending more users - it just looks like "something " is off as sessions are not going up
