In my research, the average opt-in rate is 1.95%. I've read anywhere from less than 1% to as high as 5%.
I'm sure some of these come from ebooks, whitepapers, webinars, landing pages, etc. so there is always wiggle room.
We're really good at tracking numbers around cost per acquisition, but we have very little KPIs around quality of subscribers. I find myself staring at my own subscription lists and just wondering "Why did this person sign up?"
What data would be valuable to you in improving an email opt-in rate?
