Why on earth does MailChimp not allow you to mark Group fields are "required"?

MailChimp has three built-in audience segmentation features: tags, groups, and segments.

The only one that you can let audiences self-identify for are groups, so it makes sense logically that you should be able to mark this field as required on sign-up forms. But you can't.

The only way to require audiences to self-identify is by using a custom field, but this is a work-around and doesn't allow you to easily maintain your audiences in MailChimp (e.g. if you want to bulk change/add subscribers to an audience group, you would need to export your audiences, enter the information on the custom field column, and upload back into MailChimp).

If anyone who works at MailChimp reads this, please allow group fields to be marked are required fields. Without this ability, it forces people to use custom fields which is harder to maintain and organize.
