Do I have to implement my GA tag into the website or could I use theirs - I can see it on the page source they have the tag?

o I work as an email marketer in a small company. My goal is to see how many of our contacts sign up on our website after clicking on the link through the email campaigns that I have sent to them. I am able to see on Mailchimp how many of my contacts have clicked on the link but after that, I would have no idea if they have signed up and if I have generated any leads.

Anyway, now that I have figured out how to use the basic fundamentals of Google Tag Manager I was wondering would it be easier to take the Google Tag Manager code in the page source that I can see? I did not set up the sites, another team does this for us so therefore I don't have the permission to use the front or back-end of the websites. However, after practising GTM with my own websites in my own time, I just want to know do I have to contact one of the designer teams to go further and track any events after our contacts have clicked on the link through my email sends? - Does this make sense?

Or simply could I take this GTM code and put it in my Google Analytics to track our goals.
