Email Marketing Skills

email marketing skillsEmail Marketing Skills are essential for email marketing success. What do I mean? Success in any endeavor requires that you develop the skills. If you want to succeed as a dentist, you will require many years and a lot of money to get the basic training. If you want to be an airplane pilot, get ready to spend time and money learning the ins and outs of flying. The same is true for email marketing. This article takes a look at some of the most important email marketing skills you will need to develop to become successful.

First among the necessary email marketing skills you will need is the ability to actually build your list. Keep in mind that everyone starts at zero. There was a time when I had a list with exactly zero subscribers in it. To see how I changed that, check out Build Your Email List From Zero.

Once the list is building, it will be important to focus on a few more email marketing skills to get the results you are looking for. Before we go any further, let’s all agree that the end goal is sales for your business. To get that goal accomplished, we need to work our way back towards the actions we can control. This brings us to the next item on our email marketing skills list:

Getting Your Message Opened Building a list is critical, of course. Making sure that list is actually opening your messages is essential. If nobody is opening your messages, this means your message isn’t getting seen. If your message isn’t getting seen, your business will not be making sales. What are some of the steps you can take to get your messages opened? First, make sure your subject line is relevant to your readers’ interests. They joined your list because of their interest in your offer. Use the subject line to capture their attention and let them know you are interested in helping them solve their problem.

A big tip is to personalize your subject lines by using Signature Tokens to include your reader’s name in the subject line. This give you a quick instant advantage over the other messages arriving in their inbox.

Don’t forget the importance of the Preview Pane to make your message even more pointed.

Getting Responses From Your Readers is the next big step. Once they are looking at your message, your next goal is to get them to click through to your content or your sales page. This is why you want to pay attention to your message format, where your links are, and your calls to action.

The best way to track all of this is through List Segmentation in your back office. You can quickly track which readers are opening messages, which readers are clicking the links in your messages, and the actual links they are clicking.

When you track each aspect of your email marketing from list building to click-throughs, you will begin to develop the skills that make you an effective (profitable) email marketer.

If you’ve got questions, comments, or feedback, we’d love to hear from you!

Yours In Success,
