Tons Of Fake Opt-Ins

Over the past few days, it seems that my website is getting hit with some sort of attack. It started with spam comments on a specific blog post. Then attempts to login to my admin panel. I upped security and those two things stopped.

Now I'm getting tons of fake opt-ins but with real email addresses. They are using gibberish in the "name" field, but many of the email addresses appear to be real. What's the point of this?

Have deleted the obviously fake opt-ins and switched from single to double. But is there anything else I should be doing as a security measure for my emails?
