How much resources does a SMPT server use?

So I'm thinking to start using my own server, but I can't find any complete data on what server load should I expect

So let's say I have a 4GB 2 core VPS running the server - how many sends could the server handle per minute/hour?

Any input on this is higly valuable, thanks :)
